Chinese President Hu Jintao has voiced hope that talks between the Dalai Lama’s envoys and China would help end a stalemate between the two sides, seven weeks after deadly unrest in Tibet.
The closed-door talks, due to be held on Sunday (local time) in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, would be the first in over a year and comes after international leaders pressured China to reopen dialogue in the wake of the violence.
“I hope some positive results will be achieved in the meeting,” Japan’s Jiji press quoted Mr Hu as saying in a briefing to Japanese reporters in Beijing ahead of his visit to Tokyo this week.
