BRUSSELS: Yesterday, European Parliament’s Tibet Interest Group met for its regular monthly meeting. It was chaired by MEP Thomas Mann, accompanied by MEPs Csaba Sogor, Scott-Cato, Tunne Kelam and the staff of Bureau du Tibet and other Assistants in total numbering around 25.
Among the important businesses of the meeting, forthcoming EU and EP related activities were discussed and confirmed. When the floor was given to Representative Tashi Phuntsok to update on activities, he first of all recalled the day of birth of Panchen Rinpoche. He wished all to remember and pray for his well-being.
The forthcoming visit to Dharamsala from May 21 – 26 by Parliamentary Assistants, numbering 8, was confirmed. The meeting was also informed about Tibet Solidarity Campaign by a group of Tibetans from Switzerland on May 02 and 03 in front of the EU and the EP.
In keeping with the calendar of the European Parliament and past tradition, the annual birthday reception of His Holiness the Dalai Lama was confirmed on Tuesday 27 June.
Finally, the MEP mission to Dharamsala between 18 – 24 September 2017 was put on the minutes. It will be followed-up in earnest by Bureau du Tibet. Some MEPs have already enlisted for the mission.
Under any other matter, MEP Csaba Sogor and Representative Tashi Phuntsok briefed the meeting on the recent Bureau du Tibet delegation’s visit to Transylvania, Romania, from 06 – 09 April.
