Dharamsala: A high-level U.S. Congressional delegation led by U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, will visit Dharamshala for two days from 9 -10 May 2017.
An eight-member bipartisan delegation led by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi of the U.S. House of Representatives consists of Representative Jim Sensenbrenner, Representative Eliot Engel, Representative Jim McGovern, Representative Betty McCollum, Representative Judy Chu, Representative Joyce Beatty and Representative Pramila Jayapal.
Four members of the delegation: Nancy Pelosi, Jim McGovern, Betty McCollum and Joyce Beatty were a part of the Congressional delegation that visited Tibet in November 2015.
CTA President Dr Lobsang Sangay said, “The CTA is honoured to welcome the second visit by a high-level bipartisan delegation of the U.S. Congress led by leader Nancy Pelosi to Dharamshala after nine years.”
Pelosi, who was then the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, led a ten-member bipartisan congressional delegation to Dharamsala in 2008 to express solidarity with the Tibetan people in the aftermath of the pan-Tibet uprising of that year.
The Central Tibetan Administration is organising a public felicitation in honour of the congressional delegation’s visit to Dharamsala and His Holiness the Dalai Lama will grace the public felicitation on May 10 at the Tsuglakhang temple. The public event will be streamed live on Tibet TV from 9 am onwards.
