Canberra: The Tibet Information Office in Canberra organised a virtual training for Tibetan weekend school teachers based in Australia on 18-19 September 2023.
During the inaugural day of the training, Representative Karma Singey of Tibet Information Office briefed on the status of the Tibetan weekend schools in Australia.
Education Kalon Tharlam Dolma emphasised the importance of family members taking responsibility for the students’ Tibetan education. In addition, she advised the teachers about the importance of nurturing good human beings. They were assured of every assistance in distribution of textbooks and other learning tools from the department. Regarding further assistance, Kalon urged them to contact the department directly.
Joint Secretary Tenzin Pema, Director of the Office of Education Council, apprised the trainees of the SEE Learning programme.
Mingchung, Tibetan language mentor at Upper TCV, led the session on developing children’s reading skills.
The following day, Jampa Pemo, kindergarten teacher at Upper TCV, and Passang Tsering, Tibetan language mentor at Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society, led the session on teaching Tibetan through activities and learning tools.
The virtual training was attended by 50 Tibetan weekend school teachers from around 7 regions.
