Photographs obtained by the the UK’s Free Tibet Campaign show enormous numbers of armed security forces swarming the important monastery town of Labrang (Amdo). Labrang Monastery is home to the largest number of monks outside the Tibet Autonomous Region. The images confirm reports of an intensive military build-up in Tibet ahead of the 50th anniversary of the 1959 Tibetan uprising.
