Delegations from Various Melbourne-based Chinese Associations Call on OoT Canberra

Canberra: A nine-member delegation comprising members from the Melbourne-based Chinese Tibetan Civil Exchange Promotion Association, Chinese Democracy Movement, Chinese New Youth for Democracy paid a courtesy call on the Office of Tibet – Canberra, along with Professor Feng Chong Yi, the President of the Australian and New Zealand Alliance of Victims of Chinese Communist Regime earlier today. After welcoming the delegation, Representative Karma Singey briefed them about how his office serves as a liaison office and source of information on matters related to Tibetans inside and outside Tibet and provides information on Tibet’s history, culture, religion, and environment and informed them that the office of Tibet, Canberra was established in 1993 following His Holiness the Dalai Lama‘s historic meeting with the then Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating in May 1992.

He further explained to the delegates that one of his primary responsibilities as Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Central Tibetan Administration is to strengthen friendship and solidarity between the Tibetan and Chinese communities and establish a better understanding among the Chinese people about the issue of Tibet and His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visions. He also expressed his gratitude for their support and solidarity for the just cause of Tibet.

The delegation comprises Professor Feng Chong Yi, President of the Alliance of Victims of Chinese Communist Regime of Australia and New Zealand, Yu Shixin, Executive Director of the Chinese Civil Exchange Promotion Association, Gao Jian from Melbourne Chinese Democracy Movement, Ke Yin from the New Youth for Democracy, and other members of the respective associations.

Prior to that day, Representative Karma Singey attended the 11th Chinese Tibetan Civil Exchange Promotion Award ceremony organised by the Chinese Tibetan Civil Exchange Promotion association at the Hyatt hotel in Canberra. From 2013 onward, the Chinese Tibetan Civil Exchange Promotion Association has been presenting awards to individuals and organisations that have made outstanding achievements in promoting better relationships between the Tibetan and Chinese communities.

The former Chinese Liaison Officer of the Office of Tibet – Canberra, Dadon, received the 11th Chinese Tibetan Civil Exchange Promotion Award.

Amongst other guests, the ceremony was also attended by Secretary Lhawang Gyalpo, President Kalsang Tsering and Vice-President Dr. Tenzin Dolma of the Canberra Tibetan Community.
