DHARAMSHALA: A screening of “This Changes Everything”, an epic documentary on the impact of climate change on everyday people was held in Dendy Cinema at the Canberra Centre on 10 November. Around 200 people attended the screening.
It was followed by a panel discussion on the impact of climate change in the world. The panel comprised of Mr. Lhakpa Tshoko, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia, Ms. Phoebe Howe from the ACT Conservation Council and a representative from 350 Canberra, a global grassroots movement dedicated to reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere below 350 ppm. The event presented an opportunity to bring the spotlight on the situation of Tibet’s delicate ecosystem and put it in a global context about how it would affect everyone outside Tibet.
After the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) initiated the “Climate Action for Tibet- Roof of the world” campaign, the ACT (Canberra) Tibetan Community has been actively promoting it on social media via the Photo challenge, as well as to the wider Canberra community through various channels. The People’s climate march is a global activist event, which will take place all over the world in major cities this month. In Canberra it takes place on 29th November and is organized by the ACT Conservation Council. The Canberra Tibetan community have now become partners with the organizers and have been actively promoting the march as well as Tibet’s climate issues. Phoebe Howe from the Conservation Council stated, “We are very happy that the Canberra Tibetan Community have come forward as partner and are strongly supporting the movement. It is very encouraging to see different communities come forward and take an initiative in climate action.”
The Canberra Tibetan Community will be participating in other media promotion events in the weeks prior to the People’s Climate march on 29th November in Canberra.
