Dharamshala: On the auspicious 15th day of Saka Dawa, Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society (STSS) organised its day-long 13th Annual School Heads Meeting at Sherab Gatsel Lobling on 9 June 2017. The meeting was inaugurated by Honourable Education Kalon, Mr Ngodup Tsering. He was accompanied by Mr Tenzin Dorjee, Head of Traditional and Modern Academic Section, Departement of Education, CTA.
At 9:00 am, Honourable Kalon inaugurated the meeting by the lighting of butter lamp and offering scarf to the portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The Director of STSS, Mr Namgyal Yemphel, welcomed the school heads and highlighted the objectives of the meeting. The introductory speech was followed by the speech of Honourable Education Kalon, Mr Ngodup Tsering.
In his speech, Honourable Kalon recounts how STSS was established in 1999 and made a steady progress over the years through efforts from various stakeholders, looking after a large number of Tibetan Schools in exile.
As for the handing over of remaining CTSA Schools, he said that under the guidance and direction of Sikyong, the Department of Education and STSS are putting huge effort and working hard to expedite the handing over of the remaining CTSA Schools.
He also spoke that the schools so far taken over by STSS are gradually progressing. The Recent visit to these schools by Honourable Kalon, and a visit to southern schools by Secretary, DoE and Director, STSS also saw a huge positive change in the school environment. He emphasised that school heads and teachers must work not just for livelihood but they should consistently remind themselves of the extra responsibility that they shoulder towards the educational development of our children.
At the end, he stressed the importance of school heads in the functioning of schools. He said, ‘School heads play the pivotal role in inspiring and improving the educational standard of a school. Though school heads have administrative roles to play but more importantly, they should observe the classroom teaching-learning process. Accordingly, the school heads should help the teachers in need and shoulder the overall responsibility of a school.’
The inaugural function ended with a group picture of school heads with Honourable Kalon.
