His Holiness the Dalai Lama Expresses Sadness about Taiwan Earthquake

DHARAMSHALA:  – His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote to President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan yesterday to express his profound sadness over the loss of life and extensive devastation caused by a strong earthquake that struck Hualien city on 6 February.

“I understand that every effort is being made to rescue the injured and provide relief to those affected by this tragedy,” His Holiness wrote in his letter to the President. “I offer condolences to Your Excellency and to the families who have lost loved ones,” His Holiness the Dalai Lama added.

Taiwan, where His Holiness the Dalai Lama has visited several times in the past to conduct teachings, was hit by an earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude on the Richter scale on 6 February. Hualien, a city on Taiwan’s east coast was the worst hit with official figures putting the death toll at 9 and 62 missing.
