DHARAMSHALA: Kalon Karma Yeshi of the Department of Finance, Central Tibetan Administration, today inaugurated education department’s annual leadership workshop for class 10 students at Lower TCV school.
The workshop is being attended by at least 300 Tibetan students from 30 different schools across India. It will conclude on 27 December.
In his inaugural remarks, Kalon Karma Yeshi emphasised the importance of education to succeed in life. He said that even if you don’t succeed in this life through education, you would be rewarded in the next life simply through the transcendent power of recollection.
He further spoke about His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s untiring efforts to advance Tibetan education in exile and why it is not enough to simply study to achieve one’s career goals in life, as Tibetans have dual responsibility of country and career.
Mr Ngawang Yonten, Acting Secretary, Department of Education, spoke about the department’s objective in organising these workshops and urged the students to utilise the opportunity provided by this workshop to learn about Tibet, Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan movement to restore freedom in Tibet.
He also spoke about the importance of preserving Tibetan language and culture in exile.
The introductory remarks of the workshop was delivered by Tenzin Dorjee and the vote of thanks by Mr Ngodup Tempa.
The eight-day workshop include discussions on various topics related to the Tibetan movement and addresses by Tibetan leaders and prominent personalities from all walks of life including Deputy Speaker Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, Ms Dolkar Wangmo, Chief Counsellor, Ms Sonam Dechen from Tibetan Center for Conflict Resolution, etc.
Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay is scheduled to address the students on 26 December.
