More than 100 Students from 6 Tibetan Weekend Schools Across Australia Partake in Cultural Meet

Canberra:  The Office of Tibet in Canberra organised the first Inter-Tibetan language weekend Schools’ Cultural meet at Mackellar Girls Campus, Dee Why in Sydney on 26 February 2023. More than  100 students from 6 Tibetan weekend schools across Australia namely; Newcastle, Canberra, Sydney, Nowra, Melbourne and Campbelltown participated in the event.

Representative Karma Singey said this cultural meet is to provide an opportunity and platform for all students to showcase their abilities and talents. He further applauded the parents for their support, motivation and encouragement to their children in safeguarding the distinct cultural identity of Tibetans. He also thanked the teachers of the Tibetan weekend schools for rendering valuable volunteer services for the upbringing of the future generation of Tibetans with knowledge of our own culture and identity.

Tibetan MP Tenzin Phuntsok Doring said the participation and support of this cultural event are fulfilling the wishes of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration.

“The event also sends a message to the Chinese government that Tibetans are united and ensuring the survival of Tibetan culture and identity even in the diaspora”, he added.

Representative Karma Singey and MP Tenzin Phuntsok Doring presented certificates of appreciation to all the participants and felicitated each weekend school for their cooperation and support followed by a vote of thanks by Secretary Lhawang Gyalpo.

The event was also attended by many executive members of various Tibetan Community associations, teachers and parents from the different weekend schools in Australia.
