Canberra: Marking the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a Special Interfaith Service titled “Freedom, Equality and Justice for all”, was organised by the Rev. Bill Crews Foundation at Ashfield Uniting Church, Sydney on 10 December 2023. The service was attended by representatives from various religious communities and organizations.
Representative Karma Singey while speaking on the occasion, said that the day is mixed with emotions of joy and sorrow for Tibetan people as on this day Tibetans around the world celebrate the conferment of the Nobel Peace Prize on His Holiness the Dalai Lama and also took to the streets to speak out against the Chinese government for its continued human rights violations in Tibet. He highlighted His Holiness the Dalai lama’s commitment to promoting a compassionate world by advocating human values and inter-religious harmony. He further said that the teachings and messages of His Holiness the Dalai Lama have always emphasised the need to look at the world as one large family of 7 billion human beings who aspire for happiness and want no suffering.
Additionally, Representative Singey informed the gathering about China’s ongoing pursuit of meddling with the Tibetan Buddhist tradition of reincarnation which is a strictly spiritual matter of the Tibetans that the CCP is politicising and blatantly violating to the disregard of the fundamentals of spiritual tradition.
Finally, he expressed his utmost gratitude to the Rev. Bill Crew for organising this special event. Rev. Bill Crew is renowned for his multi-faith dialogue efforts and his friendship with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
