Sikyong Highlights Situation Inside Tibet During Official Engagements in Sydney

Sydney: Sikyong Penpa Tsering of Central Tibetan Administration began the second day of his official engagements in Australia by interacting with Tibetan youth and members of the Voluntary Tibet Advocacy Group (V-TAG) in and around Sydney on 18 June 2023. He apprised the gathering of the history of Tibet, the formation of the Tibetan plateau, and the current critical situation inside Tibet. Sikyong advised the Tibetan youth to pay attention to Tibetan history by reading as many books on Tibet as possible and to participate in the Tibet advocacy movement, following which he held Q & A session.

In honour of Sikyong Penpa Tsering’s official visit to Australia, Australian MP Dr Sophie Scamps hosted a special lunch event at the Royal Motor Yacht Club in New Port, Sydney, on 18 June 2023. Sikyong interacted with local dignitaries and supporters of Tibet who attended the event. The Australian MP expressed her joy in meeting His Holiness the Dalai Lama during her visit to Dharamshala in April this year and also shared her experience meeting the leadership of the Central Tibetan Administration and visiting the governmental organisations and NGOs. Sikyong thanked the organisers for hosting the event and spoke on the concerning situation inside Tibet, the importance of protecting Tibet’s environment, the formation of the Tibetan plateau and the importance of Tibet’s rivers to the neighbouring countries.

Later in the afternoon, Sikyong Penpa Tsering spoke on “Resolution of the Longstanding Sino-Tibet Conflict is Imperative for World Peace” at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), hosted by the UTS’s Asia Pacific Research Group and the Discipline of Social and Political Sciences. Democracy seekers, experts, writers, and Sydney Chinese Tibetan Friendship Association members were present during the event. Sikyong apprised them of the historically independent status of Tibet, the adoption of the Middle Way Approach to resolve the Sino-Tibet conflict, and the Central Tibetan Administration.
