DHARAMSHALA: Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay today inaugurated a two-day ‘School Systems Heads Meeting’ organised by Department of Education at Nyatri hall, Gangchen Kyishong. The meeting is being held to discuss effective ways of improving students’ education and enhancing the efficiency of Tibetan schools administration.
In his inaugural address, Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay emphasised the important role of school administrators including principals and headmasters in promoting the welfare of students and facilitating a holistic environment for learning and growth. He further spoke about the Kashag’s five-fifty strategy to sustain the long-term growth of the Tibetan community by strengthening the community’s socioeconomic foundation, for which a sound education policy is crucial.
Sikyong also opined that the various Tibetan school systems should work as one and focus on specialised subjects after completing class V. He speculated that such a policy would foster the growth of professionals within the community.
Education Kalon Mr Ngodup Tsering emphasised on the holistic improvement of school staff and called for making the school’s curriculum more professional. He further added his concern over the deteriorating morality of Tibetan students and their lack of interest in mathematics. He concluded his talk by urging the school heads to hold a meaningful discussion during the two-day meeting.
Besides Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay and Education Kalon Ngodup Tsering, the meeting is being attended by Mr Karma Singhe, Additional Secretary of Department of Education, Mr Thupten Dorjee, President of TCV school, Mr Karma Chungdak, General Secretary of Tibetan Homes School (THS), Mussoorie, Mr Namgyal Yarphel, Director of Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society (STSS), Mr Sonam Sichoe, Education Director of TCV school, Mr Sonam Tsering, Administrator of Snow Lion Foundation, Nepal, Mr Tsering Samdup, Director of Education Council, Mr Gedun Rinchen, Assistant Secretary of THS, Mussoorie, Mr Tsewang Norbu, Deputy Director of STSS, Ngawang Yonten, Head of Scholarship & Sponsorship, DoE, Mr Tenzin Dorjee, head of Academic section of DoE and Mr Kelsang Gonpo, Deputy Secretary of DoE were present at the inaugural ceremony of the meeting.
The meeting will conclude on 28 March 2017.
