Sikyong Penpa Tsering Concludes Official Engagements in Sydney

Sydney: Sikyong Penpa Tsering commenced his official engagements on the final day in Sydney with an interview with journalist Mathew Knott from the Sydney Morning Herald on 19 June 2023.

Later in the afternoon, he spoke at the New South Wales State Parliament on “Resistance, Resilience and Democracy in Exile”. He apprised the gathering of the Chinese government’s interference in the reincarnation procedure of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, CTA’s adherence to resolving the Sino-Tibet conflict through the Middle Way Approach, the critical situation inside Tibet, and expressed gratitude to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The event was co-hosted by Members of the State Parliament Micheal Regan and James Griffin in coordination with the Tibet Information Office and Australia Tibet Council. The event was moderated by Karla Grant, Australian presenter and journalist for the SBS News.

Sikyong arrived in Canberra in the afternoon after the successful completion of official engagements in Sydney. Upon arrival, he was accorded a warm reception by the President-led members of the Tibetan Association, former Representatives and staff of the Tibet Information Office, Tibet supporters and the Tibetan community.

In the evening, Sikyong addressed the Tibetan community in and around the Australian capital city of Canberra on the 16th Kashag’s vision, the gratitude owed to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, strengthening of the framework of the Central Tibetan Administration, sustenance of the Tibetan settlements in exile and solving the housing issues faced in exile. In addition, Sikyong spoke about the dwindling Tibetan population and stressed the importance of paying attention to and learning Tibetan history, elevating the status of the Tibetan cause on the global stage, and reintroduction of the new Tibet bill in the US Congress.
