Representative Karma Singey, Tibet Information Office, Canberra, participated in a virtual celebration of 76th birthday of Kyabje Sakya Gong-ma Trichen Rinpoche which was held on 6 September. The event was hosted by Sakya Losel Choe Dzong, Tibetan Buddhist Society based at Canberra.
To mark the occasion, a video interview conducted by Tibet Oral History Project in 2017 with Kyabje Gong-ma Trichen Rinpoche about his life before and after the Chinese invasion was screened followed by a talk on the legacy of Sakya Pandita Kunga Gyaltsen and Drogon Choegyal Phagpa by the special guest speaker Dr. Khenpo Nawang Jorden, Director of International Buddhist Academy, Nepal.
Representative Karma Singey while speaking on the occasion, said, “His Eminence Sakya Gong-ma Trichen Rinpoche has consistently supported His Holiness the Dalai Lama in all his endeavours and vision. His effort in preserving the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, culture and unity of Tibetan people have been exemplary. “He further expressed his profound gratitude to Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche for his life long contribution towards Tibetan Buddhism and revival of Tibetan culture during this difficult period in the history of Tibet.”
Before concluding the event, some of the participants shared their thoughts and experiences of meeting with Kyabje Gong-ma Trichen Rinpoche during his earlier visits to Australia. Some expressed the hope that they will be able to welcome him again to Australia in near future.
Finally, the event ended with the life long prayer for Kyabje Sakya Gong-ma Trichen led by Lama Choedak Rinpoche, the Spiritual Director of Sakya Losel Choe Dzong, Tibetan Buddhist Society, Canberra.
