Australia: Tibetan communities across Australia celebrated His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 89th birthday with great fanfare in the presence of many Tibet supporters and Friends of Tibet. Many of the prominent Australian Parliamentarians and Tibet supporters including Susan Templeman MP, Hon. Michael McCormack MP, David Smith MP, Dr. Sophie Scamps MP, Fiona Phillips MP and Former Senator Janet Rice attended the birthday celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama with the Tibetan communities in their respective regions.
Representative Karma Singey of Tibet Office, Canberra attended the celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday at Victoria and Canberra Tibetan Communities and extended them his greetings on the auspicious occasion. In his address to the gatherings, he emphasised that the best way to celebrate His Holiness’s birthday would be to practice what he preaches and requested everyone to develop a good heart as this would be the best gift one could offer to His Holiness on his birthday. He also informed the gathering about Kashag’s plan to celebrate HH the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday next year as the “Year of Compassion” with a series of year-long events starting in July 2025.
On the occasion of the 89th Birthday of Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Co-Chairs of the Australian All-Party Parliamentary Tibet Group (AAPGT) issued a formal statement in which they wished His Holiness good health and long life and welcomed the recent US Congress’s passing of the “Resolved Tibet Act” recognising the Tibetan people’s right to self-determination and calling for the Chinese government to negotiate without any preconditions with His Holiness the Dalai Lama or His representatives for a peaceful resolution of Sino-Tibet Conflict.
