Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies Prepares for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Visit

Sarnath, Varanasi: Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies based in Sarnath prepares for the upcoming visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama who is slated to visit for three days at the center. His Holiness the Dalai Lama will arrive at the Institute on 29 December.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will grace a two-day conference on ‘Mind in Indian Philosophical Schools of Thought and Modern science’ at the Central Institute of Higher Studies in Varanasi on 30 and 31 December 2017. His Holiness will also grace the 50th founding anniversary of Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies on 1st January 2018.

At the two-day conference on the mind and modern science, panellists who will take part in the programme include scientists and philosophical experts from America, France and Italy as well as Sri Lankan Buddhist and Indian professors from well-known universities.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the chief guest at the 50th founding anniversary celebration of the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies. His Eminence Professor Samdhong Rinpoche is the special guest. Other guests at the celebration include Dr Lobsang Sangay, President of the Central Tibetan Administration, Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile and Religion and Culture Kalon Ven Karma Gelek Yuthok are taking part in the Golden Jubilee Anniversary.

“At the 50th-anniversary event, CIHTS will present a souvenir to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Indian Government and the Tibetan Administration as a token of appreciation for their contributions,” Dr Penpa Dorjee, head of the organising committee of CIHTS said.

“We are expecting Dr Mahesh Sharma, Culture Minister of India and Dr B P Singh, former Governor of Sikkim who has contributed significantly to CIHTS, to take part in the event,” he added.

“At this 50th Anniversary of the CIHTS, the institute is proud of its achievements particularly the revival of ancient Indian Philosophical thoughts that Tibetans have preserved in the form of the Kangyur and Tengyur which was translated into the Sanskrit language in 60 -70 prints,” he explained.

At 2 pm in the afternoon, a press conference was organised to announce the programmes with regard to the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the Institute and the two-day conference on ‘Mind in Indian Philosophical Schools of Thought and Modern science’.

Tibet TV also organised a panel discussion with Geshe Ngawang Samten, Vice Chancellor of CIHTS, to discuss the programmes of his Holiness the Dalai Lama’s three-day visit. It will be released on Tibet TV’s official page on Friday.
