BODH GAYA: Kalon Karma Gelek Yuthok and Kalon Choekyong Wangchuk, the chairman and vice chairman of the Kalachakra organising committee, briefed the media on the upcoming programmes of the Kalachakra at DIIR media center today.

Speaking in English and Tibetan, Kalon Karma Gelek Yuthok explained the meaning and the significance of the Kalachakra initiation and said that the Kalachakra prayers help the world realise its potential for peace, love and compassion.

He also informed the press about the programmes that were held in the last two days of the Kalachakra, namely the ritual prayers, earth ritual dance and the teaching for disciples.

Kalon Choekyong Wangchuk spoke in Hindi for the benefit of the Hindi newspapers and explained the Kalachakra programmes and the upcoming schedules.

They further made three specific appeals to the devotees to make the Kalachakra successful and without incidents.

They urged the public particularly those staying in the tents and plywood rooms to follow fire safety norms to prevent fire and fire related hazards.

They also requested the public to not pay heed to rumours circulating among the public and rely solely on the information booths set up by the committee for genuine information. They urged the public to inform security officials if they encounter people circulating false information with intentions of disrupting the peace of the Kalachakra.

Their final appeal was to urge all devotees at the Kalachakra to refrain from eating non-vegetarian foods and go pure vegetarian, at least for the duration of the Kalachakra teachings.

Kalachakra or the turning the wheel of time, is one of the most sacred spiritual practice for Buddhists and receives the largest congregation of devotees. The Kalachakra is said to turn three wheels i.e, the wheel of internal time measured in dying and being reborn; the wheel of external time measured in days and years; and the wheel of alternate time measured in the time taken to free from the bondage of the samsaric world.

Lately, the Kalachakra has also become a cultural and social extravaganza that brings together Tibetans and people of Himalayan Buddhist regions from all over the world to one geographical location.

This Kalachakra is the 34th being given by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and is organised by the Central Tibetan Administration.
