CTA President Addresses Students of TCV and Tibetans of the Sonamling Tibetan settlement in Ladakh

Leh, Ladakh: President of Central Tibetan Administration, Dr Lobsang Sangay today met with students of Tibetan Children Village School and Tibetans from Sonamling Tibetan Settlement, Ladakh.

President Dr Lobsang Sangay in his address to the students in the morning, he talked about 14th and 15th Kashag’s priority in education. He urged students to study both modern and traditional education.

He said, “Tibetan students need to be a wild flower rather than the one grown in a garden. We have to face every situation just like the wild flower.”

He further talked about his life struggle from being a boy from a small village to a political leader to encourage the students that nothing is impossible in life.

He said, “everything starts from our thoughts. If you begin thinking positively, everything becomes easy.”

Mr. Tsetan Wangchuk, Chief Representative Officer of Sonamling Tibetan Settlement Officer mentioned about the three visions of Kashag on Unity, Innovation and Self Reliance.

Right after President Sangay’s talk with the students, he met with Tibetans of Sonamling Tibetan Settlement.

Dr. Sonam Dawa Lhunpo, Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, was invited as guest of honour. Mr Dhondup Tashi, U-Tsang Chithue, Chief Representative Officer, Chairman of Local Tibetan Assembly, Local Justice Secretary and Director of TCV Ladakh also attended the public meeting.

Sikyong began his speech by recounting his trip to Pang Gong Tso and how it was auspicious to the public. He further wishes and hopes that  the state of Jammu & Kashmir would allow the implementation of the Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy 2014 in Leh. Doing so would help authorities in Leh, Ladakh to work efficiently and effectively towards the betterment of Tibetans in Ladakh.

He also briefly talked about CTA’s loan scheme to 1000 Tibetan sweater sellers. Sikyong than summarised the 5/50 strategy which in brief means that within five years it is the CTA’s ambition to have genuine autonomy for Tibetans and fifty years to give a signal to People’s Republic of China that we will survive even if we can’t resume dialogue and gain genuine autonomy. It is to certify the sustainability of Tibetans in long run based on the proverb hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

President said, ”the entire CTA department has been working on different projects to ensure the betterment and sustainability of Tibetans in India, Bhutan and Nepal.”

He informed Tibetans in Ladakh that CTA is financially sound and working concretely.

Dr. Sonam Dawa Lhunpo, Chief Executive Councilor assured Tibetans that he would support Tibetans in any manner as per his authority in development. He further talks bit about the upcoming plan of modern technology, which will be equally applicable to Tibetan as per Ladakhis.

Mr. Tseten Wangchuk, Chief Representative Officer of Sonamling Tibetan Settlement appraised prevailing land disputes and briefly appraised the on-going project in the settlement. He thanked Dr. Sonam Dawa Lhunpo for his effort and support to inform higher authority to support Tibetan in settlement.

Chairman of Local Tibetan Assembly gave a vote thanks at the end of public meeting function.

After lunch, President Sangay was invited to meet Councillors at the Councillor secretariat where he briefly exchanged ideas and appraised the Tibetans on their honesty and hardworking attitude. He reiterated that the CTA civil servants are working labor out of love rather than for salary.  He requested the councillors to support Tibetans in the near future in their constituency.
