CTA President Condoles Demise of former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl

Dharamshala: The President of Central Tibetan Administration Dr Lobsang Sangay expressed deep condolences over the passing of former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl. Helmut Kohl died on 16 June at his home in Ludwigshafen, western Germany. He was 87.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Helmut Kohl, former Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.

“As Germany’s longest-serving post-war chancellor, Kohl was one of the greatest leaders of his time. He was a chancellor of peace and one of the founding fathers of the European Union. Kohl’s leadership in uniting Germany and Franco-German friendship is an example for leaders around the world.

“On behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Germany. We consider Kohl, a friend of Tibet, and his visit to Tibet in July 1987 brought much hope in us,”President Dr Sangay wrote.
