CTA President Opens Education Department’s 3rd Leadership Workshop for Tibetan Youth

DHARAMSHALA: CTA President Dr Lobsang Sangay today opened the 3rd leadership workshop for Tibetan youth organised by the Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration.

In his inaugural address, he spoke about his personal journey from a remote corner of Darjeeling in northeast India, to Harvard University and then to Central Tibetan Administration as the political leader of the Tibetan people.

Drawing from his personal life, he emphasised the importance of developing self-confidence, interpersonal skills, positive attitude, and determination, to be a successful leader.

Quoting Steve Jobs, the legendary founder of Apple Inc., he said leadership is not about gaining popularity but making effective decisions that have a lasting and fruitful impact. He said that the first thing that every leader has to accept is facing challenges, and how you negotiate the adversities is what sets you apart as a leader he said.

As President of the Central Tibetan Administration, he also made a recruitment pitch and urged the Tibetan youngsters to serve the Tibetan community following the completion of their education by joining the Central Tibetan Administration.

The inaugural remarks of the workshop was delivered by Dolkar Wangmo, head of the counselling section, Department of Education, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Tenzin Youtso, staff of the counselling desk.

The six-day workshop is being held at the Tibetan Administrative Training Center based in the Tibetan Reception Center near Khanyara. The resource person for the first three days of the workshop is Puneet Gupta, a training consultant with Dale Carnegie India. He will cover a diverse range of topics such as projecting a professional image, increasing productivity through time management, problem-solving, communicating with impact, enhancing teamwork, stress management, etc.

The remaining three days of the workshop from 24-26 May will be covered by speakers and experts from different disciplines and organisation of the Tibetan community in exile including CTA President Dr Lobsang Sangay, Speaker-elect Pema Jungney, Director of LTWA Ven Geshe Lhakdor, Election Commissioner Sonam Choephel Shosur, Secretary Sonam N Dagpo, Additional Secretary Ngawang Yonten, researchers from Tibet Policy Institute, etc. They will talk on topics such as Tibet and Leadership; Tibetan Charter; Evolution of Tibetan Democracy; Middle Way Approach; among others.

A total of 34 students from colleges across India are participating in the workshop.
