CTA President Speaks at CMR Law College and Center for Business Studies, Bangalore

Bengaluru: President Dr Lobsang Sangay, Central Tibetan Administration visited CMR Law College and Center for Business Studies this afternoon to give a talk on India and Tibet: “Ancient ties and Current Bonds”.

More than 500 people including faculties and students were present at the talk. Chief Representative accompanied the president. President Dr Lobsang Sangay was invited by CMR Law college for the talk.

Speaking to the students and faculties of the college, President Dr Lobsang Sangay spoke about the deep relation shared by the two nations, a relationship that goes back to the time when tectonic plate took place billion years ago.

He further elaborated that spiritually, how Buddhism came to Tibet through the works of translators of Tibet from India. He emphasized how environmentally both are connected by citing those river flowing from Tibet throughout Asia. “Tibet is the source to the major rivers flowing in Asia covering 1.4 billion people’s lives,” he added.

He even mentioned the heat wave currently affecting the world and how Tibet affects it. Tibetan plateau acts as a refrigerator, which is disturbed now and then that affects the whole world including Bengaluru.

He narrated about Tibetan democracy by citing the example of his election during 2011. Relating to Indian election, he urged the students to imbibe the Tibetan election practice in Indian democracy.

He also stressed why Chinese phones are cheap. Rare earth material and lithium that produce the battery of phone are forcefully taken from Mongolia and Tibet respectively without paying a single penny. “When your battery dies, think that Tibetans are dying,” he said.

Referring to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, he said, “The real Make in India is Tibetan movement, following Gandhi’s preach of Non-violence (Ahimsa). Hence in order to have a successful Make in India, Tibet’s movement should succeed.”

He ended the talk by pointing out that Tibet is not a faraway issue, “it is connected to your life every day”.

President Dr Lobsang Sangay was felicitated by Vice Chancellor and Dean of Law studies.

Dr Lobsang Sangay was honoured with an award by Bengaluru Regional Tibetan Legal Association.
