CTA President Urges Tibetans to Pray for Tenzin Choeying

Dharamshala: Today at the prayer for Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo, President of Central Tibetan Administration, Dr Lobsang Sangay made a call for all Tibetans to pray for Tibetan self-immolator Tenzin Choeying, who is currently in critical condition at Safdarjang Hospital, Delhi. Choeying, a third year student of Central University for Tibetan Studies on 14 July set himself afire for Tibet.

The President said, “Tenzin Choeying’s condition is critical. Please keep him in your prayers. His sacrifice for the cause of Tibet is to be honoured. We echo and support his aspirations. But please remember the life of every Tibetan is precious and we must be alive to fight for our cause.

Since the day the self-immolation took place, the Vice Chancellor of Central University for Tibetan Studies (CUTS) has been updating us on his status, he said. “He was airlifted to Delhi yesterday and his conditions worsened this morning. Doctors say he is in critical condition with 90 per cent burns.”

He further informed that this morning New Delhi Representative Ngodup Dongchung paid a visit to Safdarjang hospital and assured all help from Kashag,

“In a free country, we have the freedom to embark on all possible methods to contribute to advancing our cause. One’s life is too precious,” the concerned President said.

Majnu ka tilla camp leader, NGOs and Tibetans in Delhi are supporting him.

Son of father Ngawang Khedup and mother Tashi Yangzom, Choeying is the youngest of four siblings of the family.
