Dalai Lama donates gift for Bush Freedom Collection

According to Bush aides, the document is an early draft of what became the 1963 Tibetan Constitution. It contains handwritten comments and suggestions from the Dalai Lama.

In giving the document to Bush, the Dalai Lama said the Constitution was a result of his belief that Tibet should have a democratic form of governance.

Bush aides say the document has been designated as the founding document of the new Freedom Collection, which “presents the personal stories of struggle and achievement told by the men and women who have led freedom movements around the world.”

The document, along with others from democracy movements around the world, will be preserved at the George W. Bush Presidential Center’s Bush Institute and will be displayed both at the institute and on the Freedom Collection website, which is expected to launch later this year.
