Dharamshala: A four-member delegation of Australia’s All Parliamentary Group for Tibet reached Dharamshala on Monday for a four-day visit.
This morning, the delegation received an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama at his residence. At the meeting, His Holiness emphasised the relevance of the values advocated by Tibetan culture and religion in today’s world while seeking their contribution to promoting those values, especially to the younger generation in Australia.
Following their meeting with His Holiness, the delegation visited the Central Tibetan Administration and met with Sikyong Penpa Tsering at the Cabinet Secretariat where they discussed a wide range of subjects concerning the current status of the Tibet issue, CTA’s firm position in resolving the Sino-Tibet conflict through its Middle Way Approach and key concerns and priorities of the CTA in sustaining the welfare of Tibetans in exile.
After meeting with the Sikyong, the delegation visited the Tibetan Parliamentary Secretariat and met with Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang.
Tomorrow the visiting parliamentary delegation is holding a press meet to express their genuine support and solidarity for the just cause of Tibet and the Tibetan People.
The visiting delegation comprising MPs from all major political parties is led by MP Sharon Claydon (Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives) and includes Senator Janet Rice, MP Sophie Scamps and MP Susan Templeman accompanied by ATC’s Executive Officer Zoe Bedford. Their visit to Dharmashala this time is coordinated by Representative Karma Singey of Canberra’s Office of Tibet.
