EU Ambassadors to Visit Tibet Autonomous Region

European Union

The EU Ambassador to China, Hans Dietmar Schweisgut, and a group of Ambassadors of EU member states to China are paying an official visit to the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) from 26 – 30 June at the invitation of the TAR authorities. During their visit, the Ambassadors will meet with leaders of TAR in Lhasa and have talks with representatives from the TAR Bureau of Education, the Bureau of Health and Family Planning, the Development and Reform Commission and the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Commission.

Apart from Lhasa, the Ambassadors will visit the city of Nyingchi in the eastern part of TAR where they will have talks with the local leadership. They will also discuss the situation of agriculture with local farmers.

During their meetings in TAR, the Ambassadors will discuss the economic and social development of TAR, as well as issues of religion, education and human rights, among others. They will also visit educational, cultural and religious institutions.

The last official visit from the EU side to TAR took place in September 2013, when the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, Stavros Lambrinidis, was invited to visit TAR.
