His Holiness the Dalai Lama Arrives in Manipur for Three-day Visit

IMPHAL: His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived in Imphal, Manipur today on a three-day visit to the city. This is the Tibetan spiritual leader’s first visit to Manipur and second visit to India’s Northeastern region since April this year.

His Holiness, who was declared a state guest, was welcomed at the airport by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand. From the airport, His Holiness left for Raj Bhavan to meet Governor Najma Heptullah.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will address the global peace convention organised by the state government tomorrow, 18 October, at the City Convention Center followed by a felicitation programme.

Many Buddhist monks including some from neighbouring Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries are expected to take part in the convention.

His Holiness will return to Dharamshala on 20 October.
