NUBRA: His Holiness the Dalai Lama bestowed the long life empowerment to the public on the final day of teachings at Diskit phodrang in Nubra Valley. Prior to the empowerment, His Holiness performed preparatory rituals and then continued with the remaining teachings on Gyalsey Thokme Sangpo’s Thirty-Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva (laklen sodunma).
His Holiness narrated the historical background of the greatness of the Nalanda masters and their teachings. His Holiness further talked about suffering and said, “practice of virtuous deeds drive you out of suffering, rather than non-virtuous”.
“We don’t want suffering, but we run after its causes—the disturbing emotions within us. If we really wish happiness for all sentient beings, we must cultivate peace of mind within ourselves and encourage that environment for others,” His Holiness said.
“Peace in the world depends on our relating to each other with compassion. The various philosophical views of different religions all constitute different approaches to supporting compassion”, His Holiness addressed the thousands of devotees gathered at the Diskit Podrang.
His Holiness related suffering with sectarian worshiping of Dhogyal. He narrated the entire evolution of Dhogyal since the fifth Dalai Lama, until he stopped worshiping after thoroughly examining on the impact of worshiping such a spirit. “Worshiping Dhogyal has more negative impact than positive”, he revealed
His Holiness the Dalai Lama deviated before conferring the empowerment to transmission of the Stages of Visualization of the Three Essential Meanings Entitled “The Staircase to Climb to the Joyous Land” by Bhadanta Gedhun Gyatso.
His Holiness conferred the longevity empowerment after completing the teaching. His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be visiting Samstanling Monastery tomorrow.
