DHARAMSHALA: His Holiness the Dalai Lama returned to Dharamshala today from a 20-day visit to Europe. President Dr Lobsang Sangay, Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and representatives of various Tibetan NGOs welcomed His Holiness the Dalai Lama on arrival at Kangra airport near Dharamshala.
During the visit spanning the four European nations of United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Latvia, His Holiness the Dalai Lama spoke on diverse range of themes such as compassion, joy of education, harmony without boundaries, and gave teachings on Kamalashila’s The Middling Stages of Meditation (gomrim barpa) and Tsongkhapa’s Concise Stages of the Path to Enlightenment (lamrim dudon).
His Holiness the Dalai Lama also met with a number of dignitaries and public figures during the visit including members of parliament, religious leaders, social activists, students, media persons and Tibet supporters.
His Holiness was conferred the ‘Builder of Peace, Justice and Nonviolence Prize’ in Messina (Italy) on 17 September and an Honorary Masters Degree by the University of Pisa on 21 September in recognition of His Holiness’ outstanding contribution to the understanding of psychology and for his inspirational guidance and leadership in promoting the study of Buddhist Science. Two towns in the province of Sicily, Italy also awarded honorary citizenship His Holiness the Dalai Lama on 18 September.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s upcoming schedule include a four-day teaching from 3 – 6 October at Dharamshala on Chandrakirti’s Entering the Middle Way (uma jukpa) at the request of devotees from Taiwan.
