Tawang: Following the conferment of the Avalokiteshvara Empowerment (Chenrizig Wang) to over 50,000 devotees at Yiga Choezin teaching ground, His Holiness the Dalai Lama paid a visit to Ugyen Ling, the birthplace of sixth Dalai Lama (Tsangyang Gyatso).

The Sixth Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso was born in the territory of Mon Tawang in March 1683, to parents Tashi Tendzin (a descendent of the terton Padma Lingpa) and Tsewang Lhamo.

While conferring the teachings at Yiga Choezin ground His Holiness advised the devotees that it’s important not only to try to be good people, but also good followers of the Buddha.

His Holiness said he hopes to see more nuns taking up teaching in monastic centers especially in the light of conferment of Geshema degree to nuns in December last year.

Speaking about the worship of ‘Shugden,’ His Holiness said that ‘Shugden’ is a culmination of flawed prayers and the spirit not only harms Buddha dharma but also the wellbeing of sentient beings. “From 1951 I too worshiped it but stopped after having strange experiences. The 5th Dalai Lama had tried to appease the spirit and had resorted to wrathful means to subdue it,” His Holiness clarified.
