Dharamshala: His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Tuesday wrote to the outgoing Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern following her decision to step down from the PM leadership.
In the letter, His Holiness expressed his appreciation for the exemplary leadership shown by PM Ardern during the challenging times. His Holiness further commended her for endorsing compassion in response to the tragedy of the mass shooting that took place in March 2019.
His Holiness writes, “Your spontaneous declaration that the victims of the violence belonged to the whole family of New Zealanders, while the perpetrator of the violence had set himself apart, was a powerfully realistic appraisal of what had happened”.
“Since we all depend upon others, we have to be inclusive in our concern for them, and reflecting that as human beings seeking to be happy and to avoid suffering, we are all the same,” His Holiness added.
His Holiness concluded the letter by expressing his hope and optimism that PM Ardern would continue to serve the well-being of New Zealanders even after her resignation from the leadership.
