I look forward to a good rest now: His Holiness the Dalai Lama returns from 45-day teaching tour

Dharamshala: His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived in Dharamshala on Tuesday afternoon after completing a strenuous 45-day tour to Ladakh, Delhi, Goa and Bangalore where he gave series of public teachings and talks.

His Holiness was received at the Gaggal airport by President Dr Lobsang Sangay, Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, representatives of Tibetan NGOs and local Tibetans.

While taking questions from reporters at the airport, His Holiness said “[I have a] strong body. I think mainly peaceful mind really makes a difference” after a reporter asked how he manages long journeys.

Speaking to Tibetan reporters, he said, “My tour has been very successful. I was able to do much service as I have always wished to. I ask all the Tibetans not to worry. Now that I am back here, I am looking forward to taking a good rest”.

As part of his 45-day teaching tour, the Tibetan spiritual leader first visited Ladakh from 3 July to 3 August where he celebrated his 83rd birthday.

Apart from giving public teachings, His Holiness visited the Tibetan Children’s Village Choglamsar, the Lamdon Model School, Model Public School in Zanskar, Spring Dales Public School, Men-Tsee-Khang in Padum, Zanskar, Imam Barga Mosque in Chushot Yokma, Leh and Eliezer Joldan Memorial College.

He also inaugurated the Great Summer Debate at Samstanling Monastery in Sumur, the Library and Learning Centre at Thiksey Monastery in Leh, consecrated a chörten and inaugurated a public park at Juma Bagh in Leh, Ladakh.

On his Goa visit, His Holiness gave a talk titled The Relevance of Ancient Indian Knowledge in Contemporary India at the Goa Institute of Management (GIM) in Sanquelim.

On 10 August, in Bangalore, His Holiness the Dalai Lama graced the Thank you Karnataka event, organised by the five major Tibetan settlements in South India. The celebratory event was also graced by Chief Minister of Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy.

On the last leg of his trip on Monday, His Holiness visited the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education to inaugurate its new hostel.

September 4 – 7, 2018: Four days of teachings and continuation of last year’s topic on Buddhapalita’s Commentary on the Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way (drel-pa Buddhapalita)  at the Main Tibetan Temple Tsuglagkhang.

September 12, 2018: Public Talk in Malmo, Sweden
His Holiness will give a public talk on The Art of Happiness and Peace.

September 16, 2018: Public Talk in Rotterdam, The Netherlands
His Holiness will give a public talk on Why Compassion is Essential in our Troubled World.

September 17, 2018: Teaching in Rotterdam, The Netherlands
His Holiness will give a teaching on Geshe Langri Thangpa’s Eight Verses of Mind Training (lojong tsik gyema).

September 19, 2018: Conference in Darmstadt, Germany
His Holiness will participate in a conference on Non-Violence and Peace in the morning organized by Tibet Initiative Deutschland and Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama at Congress Center Darmstadtium.

September 20, 2018: Conference in Heidelberg, Germany
His Holiness will participate in a dialogue on Happiness and Responsibility with scientists from Heidelberg.

September 21, 2018: Celebration in Rikon, Switzerland
His Holiness will participate in a religious ceremony celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Tibet Institute Rikon in the morning at Tibet Institute Rikon.

September 22, 2018: Celebration in Winterthur, Switzerland
His Holiness will participate in an official function to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Tibet Institute Rikon in the morning at Eulachhalle Winterthur.

September 23, 2018: Teaching in Zurich, Switzerland
His Holiness will give a teaching on Nagarjuna’s The Precious Garland of the Middle Way (uma rinchen trengwa), Kamalshila’s The Middling Stages of Meditation (gomrim barpa) & Gyalsey Thokme Sangpo’s Thirty-Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva’s Way of Life (laklen sodunma) in the morning organized by the Tibet Institute Rikon and the Tibetan Community of Switzerland & Liechtenstein at Zurich Hallenstadion.
