Ven. Lama Chosphel Zotpa, Chairman of Zankskar Health Care and Sowa Rigpa Research Institute presented a report on the institute.

The literal meaning of Zanskar in Bhoti language is the land of white copper. It is one of the remotest areas in India with poor medical facilities. There are around 20,000 resident with only pre-primary health centre set up by Govt of India. Due to poor transportation and communication system, Zanskar is deprived of modern medical facilities.

Having witnessed the sordid state of affairs in Zanskar health care system and modest living conditions, His Holiness expressed his wish to establish a hospital having combination of allopathic and ayurvedic (Sowa Rigpa). He promised that the Dalai Lama trust would arrange funding for the same.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama had consecrated and laid the foundation stone at construction site in 2012.

The construction work started in 2013. It took three years to complete under supervision of Ven. Lama Chosphel Zotpa. It has 26 rooms including one conference hall.

The Health care centre collaborates with various organisation to provide top notch medical facility and treatment for patients. Some of collaborators are Tibetan Children Education Foundation USA, Italian National Dental Foundation Italy, Chinese Medicine with Dr Edward Yap from Singapore, Sowa Rigpa Medicine and assistant received from government of India.
