Sydney: In a historic development in exile Tibetan history, Tsering Kalden (13-year-old, female) based in Sydney, Australia, was bestowed the ‘Ministers Award of Excellence’ on 25 September 2017, at the University of New South Wales.
A student of the Tibetan Learning Center (TLC) run by the Tibetan Community based in Australia, Tsering was awarded for her keen interest and excellence in the preservation of community culture and heritage.
Every year, up to 10 students from 254 community languages schools comprising of 30,000 students are recognised for their hard work and excellence through the Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Student Achievement. Each community language school can nominate one student only for each category (junior and senior).
The judges consider a student’s accomplishment in language, achievement and fluency and appreciation of cultural background and demonstration of intercultural understanding.
The TLC, for the first time nominated two students for the award, one from the senior section and one from the junior.
Tsering Kalden, belonging to the senior section was among the 10 recipients of the prestigious ‘Ministers Award of Excellence’, making her the first Tibetan ever to be acknowledged with the award for her proven track record and academic excellence in the Tibetan Language.
