Meerut: Ethics based on universal values, rather than religious principles is His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s focus in his public talks. His message is beginning to bear fruit as more and more Indian schools are starting to inculcate universal ethics in their school curriculum.
Today at DAV Central Public School in Meerut, His Holiness the Dalai Lama was invited to the launch of the Universal Ethics Curriculum for Indians Schools.
At the launch, His Holiness said that materialistic education should go side by side with an education based on universal ethics.
“The purpose of Universal ethics is to create a more peaceful world through education and awareness. We need to educate our mind not only on materialistic values but also on developing peace of mind, warm-heartedness and compassion,” His Holiness said.
His Holiness remarked that learning about inner values positively impact students. “It is a common experience that when we are compassionate, our minds are calmer,” His Holiness said.
He further added that the onus is on youth belonging to the 21st century to seize the opportunity and work towards creating a more peaceful and compassionate world.
“It is encouraging that numbers of institutions like the TATA institute has started merging Universal Ethics in their Curriculum,” he added.
“My blah blah is not empty,” he said humorously. “It is now showing some results and I am very happy and appreciate all your efforts.”
