OOT South Africa Campaigns for Tibet – Action for Climate Change on Roof of the World

DURBAN: As part of the Central Tibetan Administration’s official campaign on ‘Tibet – Action for  Climate Change on the Roof of the World’, the Office of Tibet, South Africa organised various environmental awareness activities to make the campaign successful by going viral in the social media through various channels.

On 27 November, a group of NGOs ( Community Connect,  350 Org., Food for Life -Children’s Project, Earth Life Africa, Gandhi Development Trust (GDT), Seeds of Unity, International Centre of Nonviolence (ICON), Tibet Society of South Africa (TSSA), South African Faith Communities’ Environment  Institute (SAFCEI) , green camp Gallery  Project hosted an open discussion on various topics related with Climate Change – “International Rights of Nature Tribunals” followed by announcements on Global Climate March  and Youth Action around  COP21 and screened a documentary movie.

The Representative, Ms. Nangsa Chodon with the coordination of TSSA- Durban, joined this gathering and discussion, to raise the global awareness on Tibet’s ecology and protection of environmental degradation on Tibet- the roof of the world, impacting global climate change. She briefly pointed out the main issues of melting glaciers  and damming of rivers, impacting 47% of water for the world  population. She also introduced His Holiness the Dalai Lama as the champion of  global environment and screened his global video message on Tibet’s environmental protection. It was followed by a distribution of the  formal official documents, with statistics on the related subject. The audience showed great enthusiasm and sense of high appreciation. The Representative, at the end, appealed to all to share online campaign urgently, to be heard by the global leaders at the CoP21 summit, in Paris.

On 29th Nov. the representative along with TSSA  members joined the grand global public march of climate change, through the  Addington Beach at Sun Coast, in Durban and distributed  the  official documents to  large number of  crowd from different  NGOs with banners. Indeed, the participation in Durban, by Office of Tibet, proved meaningful, as a great  forum to raise  awareness on Tibet and particularly on Action for Climate  change for the Roof of the World, in South Africa.
