Switzerland: The President of Central Tibetan Administration Dr Lobsang Sangay addressed the Tibetan community at the closing ceremony of the 5th Tibetan Language Competition, a yearly competition held amongst Tibetan schools in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Speaking of preservation of identity and pursuit of dignity as the crux of the Tibetan cause, Dr Sangay emphasised the importance of Tibetan culture, religion and language as the foundation of the Tibetan identity.
As we witness the fourth generation of Tibetans in exile grow up, Dr Sangay urged the younger generation to pursue the study of what makes us true Tibetan and to make it a part of their daily life. He further highlighted the significance of Tibetan identity in the Tibetan struggle. It would be of great loss and shame, he said, if we were to lose our Identity even if we were able to achieve the genuine autonomy we sought or the independence.
In the gathering that saw the attendance of nearly 250 Tibetan students and their parents and teachers, Dr. Sangay acknowledged the teachers of the Tibetan weekend language schools for their selfless contribution towards teaching and guiding the younger generation towards the preservation of the Tibetan identity.
Dr Sangay who is on a three-nation Europe visit of Switzerland, Belgium and France will be leaving for Belgium today.
