President of CTA talks Tibet on his first visit to Washington DC under the new US administration

President Dr. Lobsang Sangay meets former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Keith Harper. Harper was nominated by President Obama for the position of United States Ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Council on June 10, 2013

Washington DC: Honourable President of Central Tibetan Administration met with Senator Mike Lee from Utah and Senator Orrin Hatch, President pro tempore and the senior most republican senator from Utah in the morning of May 23, 2017 at the capitol building. He briefed them about all range of issues concerning Tibet including the current situation in Tibet and Sino-Tibetan dialogue. The senators expressed their high regard for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and exhibited grave concern on the current situation inside Tibet and promised to extend all support.

Later in the afternoon, President Lobsang Sangay met with other prominent leaders and engaged in fruitful deliberations and discussions.

In the evening, International Campaign for Tibet hosted a dinner reception in Honour of the President. This dinner reception was attended by a hundred plus Tibetans and Tibet supporters including prominent personalities like Congressman Jim McGovern and Mr Keith Harper, former US Ambassador to the UN.

He was later accompanied by Mr Penpa Tsering, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Washington DC. This marks his first visit to Washington under the new US administration and Kashag.

This is President Lobsang Sangay’s first visit to Washington DC since the new government in the US took charge and his second visit to Washington DC since his reelection and the formation of new Kashag in June last year.
