CAPE TOWN: Representative Ngodup Dorjee, Office of Tibet, Pretoria attended the delayed State of the Nation Address 2018 as a guest of Inkhata Freedom Party (IFP) on the 16 February at Cape Town which is the legislative capital of the country. The SONA which was originally scheduled on 8 February but had to be rescheduled to complete the process of appointing a new President.

The State of Nation Address is the Presidential address to a Joint Sitting of Parliament in which the government put forward the achievements of the past year and spells out policies and programs for the current year.

The maiden address by the new President Cyril Ramaphosa has been well received by the members of Parliament and public as well. Immediately after the after the address, members of the national assembly and the guests broke into a spontaneous rupture of singing and dancing which rarely happens in the past as I was told.

“There was a great sense of jubilation, hope and expectations. It was a great opportunity to reconnect with members of the Parliament of IFP,” said Representative Ngodup.

The other guests include Director General Dean Wang of the Taipei Liaison Office, Mrs Christina Teichmann of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Mr Reddy and Sewraj Girdhurparsadh.

The guests were first received at the Chief Whip’s office by Prince Buthelezi and all IFP’s MPs before going into the Parliament building.
