Sikyong condoles the demise of former Lok Sabha Speaker and Tibet supporter Shri Rabi Ray

His Holiness the Dalai Lama pulls Shri Rabi Ray’s ear at the ‘Gere Light of Truth Award for Indians’ in New Delhi in December 2002.

Dharamsala: Tibetan Political Leader Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay today condoled the demise of Shri Rabi Ray, former speaker of Lok Sabha, former Union Minster and Tibet supporter, who breathed his last this evening.

In his condolence message Sikyong said “I, on behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan people, express my sincere condolences on the sad demise of Shri Rabi Ray. His death comes as a huge loss for both India and Tibet.”

“Shri Rabi Ray met with His Holiness the Dalai Lama on many occasions. In December 2002, Richard Gere presented him with the ‘Gere Light of Truth Award for Indians’ in the benevolent presence of His Holiness.”

“As the co-convener of All Indian Parliamentary Forum for Tibet, Shri Rabi Ray was instrumental in hosting the first World Parliamentarian Convention on Tibet held in Delhi in 1994.”

“I have met Mr. Rabi Ray a few times and have been touched by work has a pro-Tibet lobbyist. He joins the league of veterans like Shri Goerge Fernandes as the oldest and lifelong supporter of Tibet.”

A noted socialist leader, Shri Rabi Ray had an illustrious career as one the finest speakers of the Indian Parliament and was a freedom fighter before joining active politics. He is survived by his wife.
