OTTAWA: Tibet’s political leader, Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay, is visiting Ottawa this week. Dr. Sangay has been invited to address the Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Canadian parliament, on Tuesday, 26 February.
The parliamentary subcommittee is in the midst of a study entitled “The Human Rights Situation in Tibetan Areas of China.” The study results from meetings between Canadian Members of Parliament and Tibetan officials during the World Parliamentarian Convention on Tibet which took place in Ottawa in April 2012.
During his visit, organised in collaboration with the Canada Tibet Committee, Dr. Sangay is also meeting with Canadian officials and national media. On the first day of his visit, Dr. Sangay has received significant attention from Canada’s most prestigious print and TV media.
On 25 February, Dr. Sangay has met with Canadian officials who support the Tibetan cause, including MP’s from the Parliamentary Friends of Tibet group, and Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Multiculturalism and Citizenship, M. Jason Kenney.
Dr. Sangay has also appeared on several important TV shows (Power and Politics and spoke about the current situation in Tibet, the rising number of self-immolations, and his administration’s solutions for the ungoing crisis. (View interview)
