Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay to visit Japan

TOKYO, January 31, 2017: Tibetan political leader (Sikyong) Dr. Lobsang Sangay will visit Japan to give a series of public talks and engage in dialogue on issues concerning Tibet, Asia and the world from 4 – 18 February. Sikyong will visit prominent cultural and educational areas in Japan during the course of his visit.

The Office of Tibet in Japan will organise a welcome reception in honour of Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay’s visit in Tokyo on 11 Feb. Distinguished guests including long-time Japanese supporters of the Tibetan cause will attend the event.

On 12 Feb, Sikyong will meet the members of the Tibetan community and speak to them at the Office of Tibet in Tokyo. Later in the evening, Sikyong will deliver a public talk on a theme titled: ‘Tragedy in Tibet: What is the Way Forward’. The talk is organised by Super Samgha, a Tibet support Group based in Japan.

On 13 Feb, Sikyong will engage in a dialogue with Ms Yoshiko Sakurai, President of Japan Institute for National Fundamentals, a think tank. Ms Sakurai is the editor of Peace Harmony and Prosperity Magazine PHP. Ms Sakurai, who takes keen interest in the issue of Tibet, was described by the Japan Times, as Japan’s “bravest and most responsible journalist.”

Later in the afternoon, Sikyong will speak to journalists at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan.

Sikyong will visit Osaka and deliver a public talk on the current situation in Tibet, way forward to resolve the issue of Tibet and why Tibet matters for Asia and the world. The event is organised by Fire Under the Snow, a Tibet Support Group.

On 17 February, Sikyong will visit Tamagawa University in Tokyo. The university, founded in 1929, offers seven programs leading to a master’s degree and four programs leading to a doctorate degree. The university works towards building rich and harmonious human culture beginning with scholarship, morality, arts, religion, the body and everyday life.

This is Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay’s third official visit to Japan. He visited Japan in 2012 and 2016.
