Swiss Parliamentary Group for Tibet Meeting in Progress.

Switzerland: Members of Swiss Parliamentary Group for Tibet held its summer session meeting at the parliament building office in Bern on 17 June, Monday afternoon. The members of the Swiss Parliamentary Group for Tibet meet bi-annually.

The meeting chaired by Ms. Maya Graf, Vice-President of the Parliamentary group, was attended by members of the parliamentary group for Tibet including Ms. Barbara Gysi, Ms. Claudia Friedl, Mr. Claude Begle, Mr. Martin Naef, Ms. Martina Munz, Mr. Nik Gugger, Ms. Prisca Birrer-Heimo and Ms. Regula Rytz.

Representative Chhimey Rigzen and Kalden Tsomo from Tibet Bureau in Geneva, Jampa Tsering Samdo, Europe Member of Tibetan Parliament in Exile, Thomas Buchli, President, and Lhawang Ngorkhangsar, Vice-President, of the Swiss-Tibetan Friendship Association, also attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed wide range of agenda including the Middle Way Approach and recent concluded 7th World Parliamentarian Convention on Tibet held in Latvia, Riga.

Representative Chhimey Rigzen, Tibet Bureau in Geneva, thanked the members of the parliamentary group for their continued concern and support for Tibet. While acknowledging the members’ support for the Middle Way Approach, Representative Chhimey briefed the historical status of independent Tibet and explained the importance of initiating concrete efforts from the parliamentarian group in bringing China into dialogue with envoys of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Jampa Tsering Samdho, Europe Member of Tibetan Parliament in Exile, explained an overview of the 7th World Parliamentary Convention on Tibet held in Latvia, Riga last month. Highlighting Riga declaration and action plan adopted by the World Parliamentarians Group for Tibet in Riga, Jampa Tsering Samdho, Member of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, emphasised some of the key actions plans that could be implemented by the members of the group in the following months.

Thomas Buchli, Secretary of the Swiss Parliamentarian group for Tibet and President of Swiss Tibetan Friendship Association, reviewed the last year meeting minutes and presented proposed interpellations for the ongoing session.

The ongoing summer session of the Swiss parliament commenced on 3 June will conclude on 21 June. The second meeting of the parliamentarian group for Tibet is scheduled to take place in December 2019.
