Taipei, 3 July 2017: Nearly 500 people, including Tibetans and Taiwanese, gathered yesterday at the Taipei Zhongying Building to officially mark the 82nd birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama with great fanfare and gusto.
Among those present at the celebration were former legislator Chen-Ju Chen and legislators Yu Mei-nu and Freddy Lim, in addition to a whole host of prominent Taiwanese Tibet scholars, representatives of various NGO’s and benefactors of the Taiwan Office of Tibet.
The celebrations opened with a spectacular religious dance offering performed by the students of the Dzogchen dharma center, which in turn was followed by a prayer session for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and cultural performance by both Tibetan and Taiwanese singers.
Addressing the audience, Rep. Dawa Tsering reiterated again the three main commitments of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, adding that His Holiness continues to receive rousing welcome in countries across the globe despite the looming pressure from China.
Prof. Tseng Chien Yuan of Chung Hua University, who is also a member of the Sino-Tibetan Friendship Association, released the new book by the Sweden-based writer Mo Li. Published by the Snowland Publications, the book is a collection of articles written by Ms Mo Li on issues related with Tibet and the Tibetan people.
Tibetan Identity, a new book published by the Department of Education of Central Tibetan Administration, was also distributed to the Tibetan people. The book seeks to generate interest and awareness among the Tibetan people about their identity.
Furthermore, this Thursday, several thousands of people are expected to attend the 2017 Blessing Concert for His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei. The concert is organized by the Gaden Shartse Center in Taipei.
