Tibetans Hold Peace Rally in Geneva to Mark International Human Rights Day

GENEVA: In coordination with Tibetan communities in Switzerland & Liechtenstein, Swiss-Tibetan Friendship Association, Tibetan Youth Association Europe and Tibetan Women’s Association organised peaceful rally in front of the United Nations for Human Rights, Geneva to mark World Human Rights Day that coincides with 26th Anniversary of Nobel Peace Prize awarded to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Tibetans traveled three hours by bus and train to Geneva and started the program with a peaceful rally from the UN High Commissioner’s Office, Palais Wilson upto the Palais des Nations followed by Tibetan national anthem and observed one minute silence to remember the  Tibetans who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Tibet and those who are still suffering in Chinese prison.

Mr. Tenzin Nyingbu, President of Local Tibetan Assembly of Switzerland & Liechtenstein, Mr. Ngodup Dorjee, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Mr. Tenzin Wangpo Tethong, Member of Tibetan Parliament in Exile Europe, President of Swiss-Tibetan Friendship Association, addressed the gathering and read out the memorandum submitted to High Commissioner for Human Rights by Vice-President Mr. Pema Lhaning of Tibetan Community of Switzerland & Liechtenstien.

“The theme of the rally as per memorandum is of World Human Rights Day: But No Human Rights in Tibet under China”. After the peaceful rally, Khen Rinpoche of Rikon Tibet institute led a prayer service. The rally ended in the evening with Sangsol and a vote of thanks from the vice President of TCSL.
