Tibetans in Canberra Raise Tibetan Flag High at Australian National Multicultural Festival

CANBERRA: Coinciding with the first three days of Tibetan Losar, thousands crowded into Garema Place to celebrate National Multicultural Festival (NMF) from 16 to 18 February.

NMF is an annual event where people from diverse ethnicities and nationalities participate to present their unique culture and traditions. Tibetan community in Australia were one among the groups to showcase the rich and unique traditions to the Australian population.

Tibet Culture Centre Ltd (TCC), an undertaking of Tibet Information participated in the festival and presented traditional Tibetan Buddhist thoughts and rituals through arts and artefacts.

Information on Tibet and Tibetan culture, religion are provided to stall visitors and brochures about the various activities and events conducted by the TCC and TIO are distributed. Additionally, the bluebook project, an initiative that enables non-Tibetans to support Tibet and Tibetan people, and stands in solidarity with them has introduced to the visitors.

ACT Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, Shane Rattenbury, MLA visited the Tibetan community stall.

The ACT Tibetan Community has participated in all areas of the festival – the footstall, cultural performances and the National Multicultural Festival parade. This year is the 13th year the community is participating in the festival to introduced Tibetan food, art and culture to the Canberrans, national and international visitors.
