His Holiness the great 14th Dalai Lama, (Chenrezig) Bodhisattva of compassion is revered all over the world for his commitment towards the holistic development of human well being on this planet earth. Of late, in addition to the three principal commitments, His Holiness has expressed his commitment to reviving ancient Indian knowledge, as it is very much relevant in today’s modern education system.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama graced the inauguration of 92nd Annual General Meet of Association of Indian Universities that was first ever held at Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, Varanasi, on 18 March 2018.

At the inaugural ceremony, His Holiness addressed the gathering by elucidating the importance of inculcating ancient Indian knowledge in today’s modern education and highlighted its significance in today’s material oriented education. His Holiness said: “If you who belong to the 21st century make the effort and can combine elements of ancient Indian knowledge with modern education, you can make a real contribution to creating a better world.”

On the 2nd day of the meeting, His Holiness the Dalai Lama with vice-chancellors of 150 Indian universities took part in a National Seminar titled: “Higher Education in the Era of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Disruptive Technology with a focus on Human Values in the Age of Disruption.”

At the seminar, His Holiness suggested that basic human nature is compassionate. His Holiness explained that it is a scientifically proven fact that constant anger, fear and hatred ruin our immune system and health, whereas warm-heartedness support and improve our health.

Considering the need for secular ethics in today’s modern education system, PB Sharma, President of Association of Indian Universities proposed to form a centre for secular ethics in their universities for better education.
