As a part of Thank you India 2018 yearlong campaign, under the leadership of Central Tibetan Administration, Tibetans across India took part in a mass cleanliness drive on the 149th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2 October 2018.
Likewise, our Social Media site is flooded with photos, videos and comments related to Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, also known as, Towards a Clean India mission.
On the eve of the Gandhi Jayanti, Central Tibetan Administration’s official Facebook page @Tibet.Net uploaded a video message (of 1 minute and 19 seconds) from CTA President Dr Lobsang Sangay, requesting all Tibetans to join the mass cleanliness drive.
“CTA will launch a cleanliness campaign here in Dharamshala, I also urge Tibetans all over India; young and old, monks and nuns, students and teachers, to take part in the Swachh Bharat Initiative, to clean your own settlements, and neighbouring villages and towns. This will be a sincere gesture from our side to say Thank you to Incredible India, to the generous people of India,” CTA President said.
CTA organised ‘Towards a Clean India’ initiative was flagged off at Mcleod Ganj by Health Kalon Choekyong Wangchuk, Additional Commissioner of Municipal Corporation, Prabha Chaudhary, President of Indo-Tibet Friendship Association, Ajay Singh, Dharamshala local Pradhans and Tibetan Settlement officer, Dawa Rinchen.
“India has been a second home for Tibetan people and provided the most support for the Tibetan people than any other country. Through today’s cleanliness program, we join with the clean India pledge led by PM Modi Ji as a mark of our utmost gratitude to this great country,” Choekyong Wangchuk, Health Kalon.
Joining the nationwide clean India campaign, thousands of Tibetans across India, clad in Thank You India T-Shirt, took part in the ‘Toward a Clean India campaign’ on Gandhi Jayanti.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan is a nationwide campaign in India for the period from 2014 to 2019, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to achieve an open defecation free India on the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, 2 October 2019.
