Update on Tibet Demonstrations, 26 May 2008

23 May 2008: Karze (Ch: Ganzi) County, Karze “TAP”, Kham (incorporated into Chinese Province of Sichuan) – Two nuns severely beaten and arrested for staging peaceful protest

Jampa and Rigzin Wangdon, both nuns from Dhargye Hardu nunnery, under Karze County, staged peaceful protest, at County government office on 23 May, calling for “freedom for Tibet”, “His Holiness the Dalai Lama must be welcomed to Tibet”, “long live His Holiness the Dalai Lama”, etc.

They were severely beaten at the protest site and then arrested by County Public Security Bureau (PSB) and People’s Armed Police (PAP) personnel


22 May 2008: Karze (Ch: Ganzi) County, Karze “TAP”, Kham (incorporated into Chinese Province of Sichuan) – Four nuns arrested for shouting slogans

Tengha, Rinchen (from Jama-tsang family), Jamgha Dolma, and Pema, all nuns from Nyima Gesey nunnery, under Karze County, shouted slogans at County government office at around 6:00 PM on May 22.

During the protest, they called for “freedom for Tibet”, “all the political prisoners must be released immediately”, “long live His Holiness the Dalai Lama”, etc. They have also scattered many posters regarding their aspirations.

County PSB and PAP personnel immediately appeared on the scene and arrested all of them.
